Three Drug Peddlers Sentenced To Life In Prison

April 21, 2016

MANILA, Philippines – Three men were sentenced to life imprisonment after a Quezon City court found them guilty of the crimes of selling and possessing illegal drugs.

In a March 21 decision, Judge Nadine Jessica Corazon Fama of the QC Regional Trial Court Branch 79 found accused Jamel Ismael, Romnick Riga, and Mujib Abdulhamid guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violating the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002.

The case was filed after the accused were arrested by operatives of the Quezon City Police District Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group in a buy bust operation at Barangay Sta. Teresita in Quezon City last August 10.

Records showed that police operatives arranged a drug deal with the suspects, who sold to a police-poseur buyer some 50 grams of shabu worth P75,000.

After receiving the marked money, the police team arrested them.

Cops also seized from the suspects five pieces of heat-sealed plastic bags containing approximately one kilo of shabu worth around P1.5 million.

In the decision, Fama said the court found enough evidence that would warrant the conviction of the three accused.

Since they were caught in the act of selling shabu, the judge noted that proof beyond reasonable doubt was established against the accused. – AIB
