MANILA, Philippines – A Manila barangay official and her live-in partner were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Quezon City late Sunday.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent Edgardo Tinio identified the arrested suspects as Joycee Reyes, 36, chairwoman of Brgy. 337 in Sta. Cruz, Manila and her partner Mariano Duque, 40.
Prior to the arrest, Tinio said a police acting as a buyer managed to arrange a meeting with Duque to buy a P10,000 worth of shabu.
He said Duque agreed to meet at a fast-food restaurant at Examiner Street corner Quezon Avenue in Brgy. West Triangle, Quezon City at around 11:30 p.m.
Tinio said the suspects were arrested after one of them handed over the illegal drugs in exchange for the money.
He said seized from the suspects were four heat-sealed plastic sachets of shabu with an estimated street value of P100,000.
Tinio said the suspects underwent inquest proceedings on Tuesday for possession and sale of illegal drugs before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
Meanwhile, five suspects were nabbed in another drug sting in Quezon City Sunday evening.
Tinio identified the suspects as Jeffrey Espineda alias “Boy Hika”, 36; John Carlo Santos, 18; Ryan Dayon, 28; Ruel Decara, 25; and Agira Basa, 40.
He said the suspects were arrested after police swooped down a suspected drug den along Dirham Street in Brgy. North Fairview, Quezon City at around 9:30 p.m. after receiving a tip.
Tinio said the suspects were caught in the act of sniffing shabu.
He said police confiscated 54 plastic sachets of shabu from the suspects.
Tinio said the suspects will also be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
