MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday ordered two bus companies to pay a fine of P1 million each and to surrender the license plates of their affected units for operating out-of-line.
In separate resolutions, the LTFRB said it found out that the unit of Dimple Star Transport with plate number TYR-393 and the CUL Transport bus with plate HVP-746 operated without securing “special permits” from the agency.
“Thus, it falls under the operation of colorum violations for operating the unit outside of its approved route or without a prior permit from this Board as defined and penalized under the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) 2014-001,” the LTFRB noted.
The bus firms’ violations were discovered when the LTFRB conducted terminal and bus inspections during its “Oplan Krismas” operation last December.
The LTFRB further noted that the involved unit of Dimple Star was also operating with incorrect route markings.
In the resolutions, the LTFRB cancelled the franchise of 10 units of the Dimple Star under case no. 2004-1578ST and six units of CUL Transport covered by case no. 2007-3237.
The board gave the two bus companies five days from receipt of the order to surrender all the yellow plates of the involved buses.
The LTFRB said “all these units are blacklisted from being used as public utility vehicle.”
Meanwhile, LTFRB board member Ariel Inton Jr. hoped that this will serve as a warning to bus operators not to engage in colorum operations.
