MANILA, Philippines – Eight-time world boxing champion and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao has apologized for his recent controversial statements that individuals in same-sex marriage “are worse than animals.”
In a statement he posted on his Facebook page today, the boxer said he is “sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals.”
“Please forgive me for those I’ve hurt,” Pacquiao wrote.
However, he noted that he is still against same-sex marriage because it is not the godly union, which is between male and female, mentioned in the bible.
“I still stand on my belief that I’m against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I’m not condemning LGBT,” he stressed.
“I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I’m praying for you,” he added.
LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender.
The boxer, who is running for a Senate seat this year, drew flak from netizens and several celebrities over his controversial remark.
Pacquiao’s statement was accompanied with a video, where he further explained his side.
